My Engineering Experience

Being a degree apprentice in electronic engineering at Smith Myers is an incredible experience that combines academic study with hands-on work in an innovative environment. A degree apprenticeship offers the unique advantage of learning through both university coursework and practical application, providing a well-rounded experience that prepares you for a successful career in any industry.

Why I Chose a Degree Apprenticeship

When I was finishing school, I faced a decision: follow the traditional university route or dive into a degree apprenticeship, where I could work full-time while studying. I chose the latter because it allowed me to learn and earn simultaneously. At Smith Myers, I’m able to study electronic engineering while gaining real-world experience in a company known for its innovative products.

One of the biggest benefits of a degree apprenticeship is financial. Unlike traditional students who take on significant debt, I earn a salary. Additionally, by the end of the program, I’ll have not only a university degree but also several years of relevant work experience, which will give me a significant edge in the job market.

Balancing Work and Study

Balancing full-time work with academic study is challenging, but it’s one of the most rewarding aspects of being a degree apprentice. At Smith Myers, I’m involved in projects that range from circuit design to testing, and these experiences directly complement what I learn in my university courses.
