Smith Myers Achieves Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award

Biggleswade, UK –10 August 2026 – Smith Myers Communications Ltd., the world’s first fully airborne-qualified Mobile Phone Detection and Location System (MPDLS) provider, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award, recognising the company’s outstanding commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.

The award represents a significant milestone in Smith Myers’ journey as a forces-friendly employer, building on the organisation’s previous achievement of the ERS Bronze Award. The Silver Award is presented to employers who demonstrate exceptional support for Reservists, veterans, military families and the wider Armed Forces community through robust policies, inclusive recruitment practices and active advocacy.

Administered by the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme encourages organisations to support Defence personnel and inspire others to do the same. It recognises employers that go beyond their Armed Forces Covenant commitments by embedding supportive HR policies, promoting Defence values and creating opportunities for members of the Armed Forces community to thrive in civilian careers.

To achieve Silver status, employers must already hold the Bronze Award and demonstrate tangible evidence of their commitment, including support for Reservist training and mobilisation, positive employment practices for veterans, and clear communication of Armed Forces-friendly policies throughout their workforce.

“As a veteran myself, I understand first-hand the dedication, professionalism and leadership that service personnel bring to every role,” said Andrew Munro, Managing Director of Smith Myers. “Achieving the ERS Silver Award is particularly meaningful because it reflects our commitment to supporting veterans, Reservists and military families as they transition into and develop successful civilian careers. We are proud to build on our Bronze Award achievement and to be recognised for creating a workplace where members of the Armed Forces community can continue to thrive.”

Smith Myers Communications will officially receive its Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award at the regional presentation ceremony on Thursday 29 October 2026 at Madingley Hall, Cambridgeshire. The event will celebrate the achievements of 331 organisations from across the UK that have been recognised for their continued commitment to supporting serving personnel, veterans, Reservists and military families.
